California Joins National Rural Development Partnership.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 2000

The State of California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W). officially joined the National Rural Development Partnership (NRDP NRDP National Rural Development Partnership ) today, paving the way for California to tap into a federal partnership to further rural development activities in the Golden State. Trade and Commerce Agency Secretary Lon S. Hatamiya signed a Memorandum of Understanding A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a legal document describing a bilateral or multilateral agreement between parties. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action and may not imply a legal commitment. this morning, designating California as the 37th state to join the National Rural Development Partnership.

"Joining this national network of state rural development councils will enable the California council to extend the network of resources available to rural California communities and regions, and provide greater opportunities for improving rural development practices," said Trade and Commerce Agency Secretary Lon S. Hatamiya.

Secretary Hatamiya noted that California will work with the NRDP in providing input toward the many issues facing rural regions of the state, such as economic development, work force development and access to healthcare.
