California Hotel & Lodging Association Members Win Most AH&LA/Diners Club Stars of the Industry Awards; California Properties & Employees Win Five Awards -- Most of Any State.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 2004

California was the only state to be recognized more than once for outstanding achievement in the lodging industry at the AH&LA/Diners Club Stars of the Industry awards competition announced during the Las Vegas International Hotel & Restaurant Show, April 13-14, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA) members won two employee awards and three achievement awards this year.

An Employee Award was given to Brandy brandy [for brandywine, from Du.,=burnt, i.e., distilled, wine], strong alcoholic spirit distilled from wine or from marc, the residue of the wine press. The most noted brandy is cognac, made from white grapes in the Charente district of France.  Vanhorn of the Doubletree Hotel Modesto, in Modesto, Calif. in the category of "Manager of the Year -- Medium Property." A second CH&LA member was also honored with an employee award -- Paul Hortobagyi of The Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries. , Calif. won in the category of "General Manager of the Year -- Small Property."
