California Hotel & Lodging Association Honors Michael K. Handlery; Michael K. As Senior Vice President of Handlery Hotels, Inc, Handlery was honored for his tireless support of the lodging industry. Handlery is a third generation hotelier, who started working for the family business during his summer vacations when he was 12. In 1990, he was elected president of the California Hotel & Motel Association, a position his father also held in 1963. As Chairperson of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) in 2003, Handlery initiated a complete re-structuring process, resulting in the first dual membership organization in the U.S. lodging industry.
