LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The California Healthcare Institute (CHI) today applauded the removal of the final hurdle allowing California's landmark $3-billion stem cell stem cell

research initiative to move forward. The California Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal of two lower court rulings, upholding the constitutionality of Proposition 71 and clearing the way for the first of $3 billion in voter-approved bonds to be issued by July.

"Today California's life sciences community, and the patients we serve, take a great step toward realizing the promise of stem cell science," said David L. Gollaher, Ph.D., CHI president and chief executive officer. "California has become the world's leading sponsor of this new science, which inspires hope for cures for disorders like diabetes, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, cancer, and spinal cord injury Spinal Cord Injury Definition
