Center is an 18-acre fenced natural area within Huntington

that meander through several habitats, including oak woodlands,
Torrey pines, meadows, and Blackbird Pond, a natural freshwater
wetland with mature willows and sycamores.
The new one-acre demonstration garden at the Center showcases
eight habitats: butterfly, hummingbird, coastal sage scrub,
wildflower meadow, oak woodland and riparian woodland. The
garden also features a bog/swale to capture rainwater for
wildlife and demonstrate water harvesting techniques, as well
as small freshwater pond.
The center's new garden is one of 21 projects in Southern
California funded by Metropolitan's City Makeover Program,
established to transform highly visible public spaces into
native and California Friendly(TM) plant landscapes. The
program is part of an ongoing public outreach effort to promote
outdoor water conservation and an appreciation of native
landscaping among Southern Californians.
