), today announced it was advising all of its delegate health agencies of the voluntary recall of the Lunelle Monthly Contraceptive injection (medroxyprogesterone acetate med·rox·y·pro·ges·ter·one acetate

 suspension) by the Pharmacia Corporation, and urging the health clinics to immediately halt the use of the product until further notice. CFHC will also instruct all affected health clinics to contact all clients who may use the product as their choice of contraceptive.

"We want to make sure all of our member clinics are aware of the recall and that they immediately halt the use of the product until its efficacy can be assured."

The California Family Health Council, Inc., is taking this action in response to the announcement today by the Pharmacia Corporation that the company is initiating a voluntary recall of Lunelle Monthly Contraceptive Injection (medroxyprogesterone acetate and estradiol cypionate injectable suspension) in prefilled syringes due to a lack of assurance of full potency and possible risk of contraceptive failure. Pharmacia is voluntarily recalling all Lunelle prefilled syringe lots currently on the market. Lunelle packaged in vials is not affected by this recall, nor is any other Pharmacia contraceptive product. Pharmacia is undertaking this voluntary recall with the full knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration. The affected lots were distributed in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , Puerto Rico Puerto Rico (pwār`tō rē`kō), island (2005 est. pop. 3,917,000), 3,508 sq mi (9,086 sq km), West Indies, c.1,000 mi (1,610 km) SE of Miami, Fla.  and the U.S. Virgin Islands during 2002 and all physicians, pharmacies, clinics and wholesalers who received these lots are being notified.
