California Department of Housing and Community Development Awards $67 Million to Rural and Small Communities for New Homeownership and Home Rental Opportunities.SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W). The funding is through the Federal Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) and comes in the form of grants to cities and counties and low interest loans to community housing development organizations. "Governor Schwarzenegger understands the need for affordable housing in California and has made it a priority for his administration," said state Business, Transportation & Housing Agency Secretary Sunne Wright McPeak. "This new funding will go a long way towards helping many families achieve the dream of homeownership." HCD awards these funds to cities, counties, and non-profit corporations that do not receive HOME funds directly from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD Hud (h d), a pre-Qur'anic prophet of Islam.
