California Department of Housing and Community Development Announces More Than $200 Million in Prop. 46 (Housing Bond) Funds -- Central Valley (Kerman, CA).

      WHAT: Announces more than $200 million in Proposition 46
            bond fund awards. Proposition 46 is the largest housing
            bond in the nation, and was approved by the voters in
            November 2002

      WHEN: July 13, 2006, 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

     WHERE: Kearney Palms Senior Apartments, 14608 West Kearney
            Boulevard Kerman, California (On north side of Kearney
            Blvd, marked by a large wrought iron fence in front and
            several large palm trees)

HIGHLIGHTS:

--Secretary Sunne Wright McPeak, Business, Transportation and Housing Agency and California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  Department of Housing and Community Development Director Lynn Lynn, city (1990 pop. 81,245), Essex co., E Mass.; inc. as a town 1631, as a city 1850. Lynn is an old industrial center. The first ironworks (1643) and the first fire engine (1654) in the country were built there.  L. Jacobs will announce the largest award package ever of Proposition 46 funding.

--Awards will provide homeownership and rental housing opportunities for the State's lower income workforce, elderly, disabled, and those at risk of homelessness. The award package also includes the first award made under the Governor's Initiative to End Chronic Homelessness.

--Awards are made to benefit projects in the following regions: Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Region, San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  Region, Greater Sacramento/ Stockton Stockton, city (1990 pop. 210,943), seat of San Joaquin co., central Calif., on the San Joaquin River; inc. 1850. One of the fastest-growing U.S. cities during the late 20th cent., Stockton is an inland seaport located at the head of the San Joaquin delta.  Area, Greater San Francisco/Bay Area, Central Valley, Inland Empire In·land Empire

DIRECTIONS:

From SR 99 coming from the South: A few miles into Fresno Fresno (frĕz`nō), city (1990 pop. 354,202), seat of Fresno co., S central Calif.; inc. 1885. Settled in 1872 as a station on the Central Pacific RR, Fresno profited from irrigated farming as early as the 1880s.  from SR 99 take SR 180 west (Kerman/Mendota) and proceed approximately 15 plus miles into Kerman Kerman (kĕrmän`), city (1991 pop. 311,643), capital of Kerman prov., E central Iran. It is noted for making and exporting carpets. Cotton textiles and goats-wool shawls are also manufactured. . At 180 (Whitesbridge Road) and Madera Avenue. (SR 145) take a left (south) and proceed 1/2 mile to Kearney Boulevard. At Kearney and Madera Avenue (145) turn left onto Kearney and proceed 3 and 1/2 blocks. Kearney Palms is on left hand side (north) right after Jehovah Witness Church (Kingdom Hall).

From SR 99 coming for the North: Several miles into Fresno from SR 99 take SR 180 west (Kerman/Mendota) and proceed approximately 15 plus miles into Kerman. At 180 (Whitesbridge Rd.) and Madera Avenue. (SR 145) takes a left (south) and proceed 1/2 mile to Kearney Boulevard. At Kearney and Madera Avenue (145) turn left onto Kearney and proceed 3 and 1/2 blocks. Kearney Palms is on left hand side (north) right after Jehovah Witness Church (Kingdom Hall).

From downtown Fresno: Take Kearney Blvd west into Kerman (15 miles). As you come into residential Kerman you pass Goldenrod goldenrod, any species of the large genus Solidago of the family Asteraceae (aster family), chiefly North American weedy herbs. They have small yellow flowers clustered, often in panicles, along a wandlike stem.  Avenue and then Vineland. Kearney Palms is approximately 1/4 mile west of Vineland on the right side (north).

From I-5 There's not a good, direct route. From either direction (north/south) one should get to 99 before Fresno
