California County turns to C&D recycling ordinances.

Antioch, Calif., has enacted a C&D recycling ordinance, and other Contra Costa County cities, including Moraga, Concord and Martinez, are expected to approve or propose similar mandates within the next few months, according to the report.

Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Orinda and Brentwood have also approved C&D recycling ordinances.

According to the report, the state is encouraging the ordinances as a way for California communities to comply with statewide recycling laws that require a 50-percent recycling rate. Failure to meet that standard can result in fines of up to $10,000 a day.
