California Council on Physical Fitness and Sports announced.


Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger (German pronunciation (IPA): [ˈaɐ̯nɔlt ˈaloɪ̯s ˈʃvaɐ̯ʦənˌʔɛɡɐ]  launched the California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, a non-profit, non-partisan organization that will promote the health benefits of physical fitness, exercise and sports for all Californians. Among the council members present for the announcement were U.S. Open The term U.S. Open is applied to "open" United States national championships in a particular sport, in which anybody, amateur or professional, American or non-American may compete. These include:

    , professional skateboarder Tony Hawk, Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan, Olympic gold medal soccer player Julie Foudy, exercise and fitness pioneer Jack LaLanne and U.S. Olympic gold medal gymnast Peter Vidmar. California now joins 46 other states that have state councils on health and fitness. Florida, Idaho, New Mexico and Wisconsin are the only states left without a state-sponsored fitness program.
