California Coast Medical Center Receives NCQA Grant to Implement MedcomSoft Record.

Practice's in-house drug dispensary a model of EMR's effectiveness

ATLANTA -- MedcomSoft Inc. (TSX:MSF) (MedcomSoft or "the Company") announced today that a California-based family medicine practice has received funding from the California Medical Foundation under the Technical Assistance Project (TAP), a program administered by the National Committee for Quality Assurance ("NCQA") which is focused on enabling improvements in the delivery of health care services to minority populations. With access to TAP funding the practice was able to implement MedcomSoft Record UE, the Company's fully interoperable electronic medical record (EMR) system.

Integrated with a practice management system, e-prescribing, and a variety of other functionalities, MedcomSoft Record UE is a single tool from which the majority of the practice's tasks can be automated. This automation is especially useful at the California Coast Medical Center, as it offers patients an in-house drug dispensary. Record enables the clinic to quickly and completely track patient data, as it relates to any aspect of their care, including medication compliance.

California Coast Medical Center is a patient-centered family practice, serving a large minority population. Led by Dr. Thomas Kockinis, a bilingual family practitioner, who has practices in Southern California for over 20 years, initiated a variety of quality improvement initiatives during the project.

Dr. Kockinis chose MedcomSoft Record UE because, "it enables me to collect and use patient data very efficiently." Underlying Record is Medcin([R]), a hierarchically structured and numerically codified clinical vocabulary that stores patient data as numerical code. "Because the data is numerically codified, it can be used in a number of remarkable ways." At the click of a button, Dr. Kockinis can see all data pertinent to a particular patient visit, including past visits, lab and prescriptions data, care plans and more. Furthermore, because patient data is codified in a standard format, every element in the patient chart can be shared or aggregated with those of other providers, to the highest levels of granularity.
