California Black Bear Cub Being Treated for Injuries at VCA South County Animal Hospital; Injured Cub Undergoing Surgery Expected to Make Full Recovery.


WHAT:   An 8-10 week old injured female California Black bear cub
        whose mother died, was rushed to VCA South County Animal
        Hospital in Arroyo Grande for treatment. The cub suffered
        blunt force trauma to the mouth area and requires surgery,
        which is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at VCA. Media will
        be able to see the cub during its pre-operative veterinary
        examination.

WHEN:   Thursday, July 29, 2004
        10:30 a.m. Comprehensive update on the evaluation, treatment
        and prognosis for the bear cub will be provided.

        Arroyo Grande, CA 93420

WHO:    Steven Paulick, DVM -- Medical Director, VCA South County
        Animal Hospital with the injured bear cub being treated.
