California Amplifier and Telaxis Communications Sign License Agreement.

Business/Technology Editors

CAMARILLO, Calif. & SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 2000

California Amplifier (Nasdaq: CAMP) and Telaxis Communications (Nasdaq: TLXS) have executed a license agreement enabling Telaxis to use designs and concepts of California Amplifier in the future development and manufacture of Telaxis' LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Service) A digital wireless transmission system that works in the 28 GHz range in the U.S. and 24-40 GHz overseas. It requires line of sight between transmitter and receiving antenna, which can be from one to four miles apart  products. This license agreement supersedes the two companies' previous design and manufacturing agreement. The new agreement allows Telaxis to incorporate the licensed designs and concepts into both current and future products for which California Amplifier will receive a one-time license fee to compensate the company for its design efforts.

"Licensing to Telaxis will allow us to better focus our resources on the MMDS (Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service or Microwave Multipoint Distribution Service) A digital wireless transmission system that works in the 2.2-2.4 GHz range.  market while providing Telaxis with access to our microwave technology to assist them in achieving their manufacturing goals," said Fred Sturm, Chief Executive Officer of California Amplifier. "We believe this new agreement best serves the interests of both parties."

"Through this revised relationship, Telaxis benefits in two ways," said John Youngblood, Chief Executive Officer of Telaxis. "First, we can incorporate the concepts developed by California Amplifier across our product lines how and when we so choose, rather than in just one product. Second, we can have any resulting products manufactured by anyone rather than just California Amplifier. We appreciate California Amplifier's efforts in assisting us with the development of a lower-cost product design."
