California's MiraCosta College History
MiraCosta was founded in 1934. Classes began in a wing at Oceanside High School. Originally, MiraCosta was known as the Oceanside-Carlsbad Junior College. There were 122 students enrolled and 20 faculty members.
 has been awarded a Career Technical Education Community Collaborative Grant in the amount of $700,000. The grant will be used by MiraCosta and its partners--Carlsbad Unified School District, San Dieguito Union High School District San Dieguito Union High School District is a school district in San Diego, California serving students in the cities of Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar and surrounding areas. , Oceanside Unified School District, Palomar College, San Marcos Unified School District, Poway Unified School District Poway Unified School District is a school district located in Poway, California. The District operates 22 elementary schools (K-5), six middle schools (6-8), four comprehensive high schools (9-12), and one continuation high school.  and Vista Unified School District--to develop career pathways that connect students in middle school to high school, and high school students to community colleges and universities. With the grant monies, MiraCosta will develop and enhance career pathways in the health and biotechnology sectors, provide career exploration opportunities for seventh- and eighth-grade students, implement student internships, develop teacher and faculty externships in business and industry and, finally, provide career technical education professional development for participating faculty members and counselors.
