The earthquake had a "strong" moment magnitude of 6. . While Quackenbush could have fined the companies up to $3 billion, he instead ordered them to donate $12 million to a foundation he controlled.

Quackenbush resigned before he was called to testify on the matter. Before he left, he put Ossias on administrative leave. Quackenbush's temporary successor, Clark Kelso, reinstated Ossias, saying her actions were protected by the Whistleblower whis·tle·blow·er or whis·tle-blow·er or whistle blower
