Calif. SWAT officer shot and killed while serving search warrant; man arrestedA police SWAT officer serving a search warrant at an apartment was fatally shot early Thursday before the subject named in the warrant was arrested, authorities said. Sergio Carrera, 29, who had been with the department for four years, was hit in the upper torso during a struggle with a man inside an apartment, Rialto police Capt. Raul Martinez said. He was rushed to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center after the 7 a.m. shooting, but did not survive surgery. "We've suffered a great loss today," Martinez said. The captain declined to release further details pending an investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that a fellow officer may have fired the shot, he said. Police detained a suspect after the narcotics raid, but no arrests have been made, Martinez said. No further details were released about the search warrant. "There were two big bangs, and that was it. It sounded like a shootout. Then, the street was flooded with cops," nearby resident Antonio Martinez told The Press-Enterprise of Riverside. The shooting happened 45 miles east of Los Angeles.
