The two concession areas, which are shown on the attached map, are located along the Zambia border, south-east of Lubumbashi and host the northern extension of the famous Zambian-Congolese Copperbelt. The two areas are adjacent to Caledonia's Nama Group of licences (Drilled Resource of 953 million tonnes at 0.029% cobalt equivalent) in Zambia and can be easily accessed by road, rail and air.

The existing copper mines at Musoshi and Kinsenda, with a production history of 25 million tonnes grading 2.6% copper, lie between these two concession areas with similar copper-cobalt deposits at Lubembe and Kimpe and in the north west at Kipushi, Kasonia, Ruashi-Etoile, Karavia and Lupoto. In 1986 past production and reserves for this area were quoted as 150 million tonnes grading up to 5% copper. The area is known to host a number of small, near surface cobalt deposits which generally average 1% with some high grade cobalt deposits such as Kimpe (1% to 4%).

Work in the concession areas prior to 1975 identified 11 copper soil anomalies hosted within extensive Roan roan

a coat color consisting of a relatively uniform mixture of white and colored hairs, giving a 'silvered' hue; self-describing colors are red-roan, blue-roan, chestnut roan.
stratigraphy stratigraphy, branch of geology specifically concerned with the arrangement of layered rocks (see stratification). Stratigraphy is based on the law of superposition, which states that in a normal sequence of rock layers the youngest is on top and the oldest on the , most of which remains untested. This includes the 9 kilometer strike extension of the Lubembe Copper deposit located on the northern edge of the Kafue anticline anticline: see fold. , 35 kilometers from the famous Zambian copper-cobalt open-pit at Nchanga (3.7% Co) and 25 kilometers north-east of the Mufulira copper mine in Zambia with proven reserves in 1994 of 42 million tonnes grading 3% copper.

The extensive archive at SODIMICO together with Caledonia's detailed knowledge of the Nama deposits will be invaluable in rapidly evaluating already identified targets, and identifying further follow-up targets. Exploration work will commence immediately in conjunction with SODIMICO over prioritized areas.

Caledonia has just completed the reconnaissance sampling program of its Kananga Concession (nickel, chromium chromium (krō`mēəm) [Gr.,=color], metallic chemical element; symbol Cr; at. no. 24; at. wt. 51.996; m.p. about 1,857°C;; b.p. 2,672°C;; sp. gr. about 7.2 at 20°C;; valence +2, +3, +6. , cobalt and diamonds) area in the Kasai Province The introduction to this article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter.
