Caldor to open new store in Fairfax.NORWALK, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 1995--Caldor, the Northeast's leading discount retailer, will open the doors to its newest Virginia store, located at 11111 Lee Highway, in Fairfax, on Sunday, July 23, 1995. This is Caldor's third store in Virginia, and the fifth store in the Washington, DC area. The 113,261 square foot Fairfax store has a 90,095 square foot sales floor. The store employs approximately 200 full and part-time associates. This brings the Caldor statewide employment total to 554. Caldor carries a wide variety of merchandise including domestics, apparel, housewares house·wares pl.n. Cooking utensils, dishes, and other small articles used in a household, especially in the kitchen. and hardware--all at discount prices. Offering the latest retail trends, this store will provide the community with a place to find everything for the family and home. The Fairfax Caldor is a single-level all new construction, built to Caldor prototype specifications. The store entranceway is spacious with park-like benches for customers and a free-of-charge carousel for children.
