Distribution and Development Agreement Means Caldera will Provide

Java(TM) 2 Platform, Standard Edition to Linux Developers Worldwide

Caldera Systems, Inc., the Linux for eBusiness company, today announced a distribution agreement with Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SUNW) to ship Sun's Java(TM) 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) and JavaHotSpot(TM) Performance Engine to Caldera's electronic solutions providers and customers.

Caldera Systems becomes the first commercial Linux distribution vendor to license Java source code from Sun Microsystems, and it will provide a commercially supported Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition to its channel partners. Caldera Systems' award winning OpenLinux platform will also be shipping J2SE and Java HotSpot in future versions of OpenLinux 2.3+, OpenLinux eServer and future OpenLinux based products.

The agreement offers a number of benefits for enterprise-focused Linux developers. The union combines the power of the J2SE with OpenLinux, the open source Linux operating system; developers can now write and deploy network-centric applications to Linux systems; and the deal makes thousands of Java technology-based applications available to the Linux user.

Working in conjunction with Sun, Caldera Systems will provide all the necessary support and consulting services to enterprise Linux engineers in their development efforts. The two companies will also engage in joint marketing initiatives.
