CalciTech brings to OFEX a technology development company that is currently commercialising its patented process for the production of Synthetic Calcium Carbonate calcium carbonate, CaCO3, white chemical compound that is the most common nonsiliceous mineral. It occurs in two crystal forms: calcite, which is hexagonal, and aragonite, which is rhombohedral. ("SCC SCC - strongly connected component "), a high quality, multi applicable specialty mineral. SCC has unique product characteristics as well as a 'green' production process. The Company considers itself to be in the specialty minerals sector. Extensive third party trials, by among others BASF BASF Bar Association of San Francisco (since 1872; San Francisco, California) BASF Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik (German chemical products company) BASF Builders Association of South Florida , have shown CalciTech's SCC to be the next generation specialty mineral. CalciTech's initial target market is the fast growing $4bn paper coatings market. Within this market, CalciTech's SCC related products are aimed at the high-end segment. SCC based products out perform competing products in terms of optical qualities, printability and cost of use. These three factors combined, make SCC a very compelling proposition to the paper industry, as witnessed by the over-subscription in letters of intent for the Company's first planned commercial scale plant. In addition to the paper coatings industry, CalciTech's products have a large potential in other markets such as foods, pharmaceuticals, plastics, rubber, sealants and adhesives.
