LLC - Logical Link Control of Louisville, KY announce their agreement to enter into negotiations concerning the use of Carbide Industries' carbide lime for the manufacture of Synthetic Calcium Carbonate calcium carbonate, CaCO3, white chemical compound that is the most common nonsiliceous mineral. It occurs in two crystal forms: calcite, which is hexagonal, and aragonite, which is rhombohedral. (SCC SCC - strongly connected component ) by CalciTech's proprietary process technology. Carbide lime is a co-product derived from acetylene acetylene (əsĕt`əlēn') or ethyne (ĕth`īn), HC≡CH, a colorless gas. It melts at −80.8°C; and boils at −84.0°C;. gas manufacturing, which has been carried out at Carbide Graphite's Louisville operation since 1942. Carbide lime has found application in such uses as flue gas desulfurization Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) is the current state-of-the art technology used for removing sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the exhaust flue gases in power plants that burn coal or oil to produce steam for the steam turbines that drive their electricity generators. and soil stabilization. CalciTech has developed a unique process for the upcycling of carbide lime and flue gas carbon dioxide into white pigment grade SCC. The company recently announced the European launch of two new SCC products with a third in the pipeline. The new products, Calci LS and Calci SG, will find use in coated paper and paperboard, while the third SCC product will serve the water based decorative paint market. Due to the outstanding purity of SCC products manufactured by the CalciTech process, they likely will also find uses in food and pharmaceutical applications. Successful negotiations between Carbide Industries and CalciTech will result in the construction of a production plant for the manufacture of the entire range of CalciTech SCC products from the large on-site reserves and continuing production of high quality carbide lime at Carbide Industries' Louisville, KY plant. Dr. Charles J. Kunesh, CalciTech's Director of Business Development - Americas, said, "Establishment of an SCC production plant in Louisville would be a win-win outcome for both Carbide Industries and CalciTech. It would also be a favorable outcome for the many current and future users of synthetic calcium carbonate, who would have an outstanding source of high quality and reasonably priced SCC products." Ara Hacetoglu, Carbide Industries President, added, "We are eager to work with CalciTech and to see our carbide lime co-product become the key raw material for production of SCC products. For over 60 years the Louisville production plant has produced important raw materials for major American industries. This joint project will allow Carbide Industries to expand the use of our raw materials into additional industrial areas." About CalciTech CalciTech Ltd. has developed a unique process for the upcycling of industrial waste lime and flue gas carbon dioxide into white pigment grade Synthetic Calcium Carbonate (SCC). The production of this innovative product is based on a patented process developed in collaboration with several universities and research centres. The first plant will be located in Leuna, Germany. The plant is expected to produce over 40,000 tons of SCC per year. CalciTech intends to expand its worldwide technology-leadership in the production of environmentally friendly SCC. Given the high quality of the product, the company foresees several application areas in different industrial markets, above all in the paper manufacturing market. The company is based in Bermuda with administrative headquarters in Ferney Voltaire, France.
