However, serious facility issues need to be resolved before construction of the vessel could take place. The issues are as follows: 1. The width of the dry dock gate opening is not wide enough by two meters. 2. The facility cannot process the number of tons of steel required for the construction. 3. The top management has agreed, in principle, to have an assessment made of the facility at the expense of our company. 4. The company has serious concerns with the third item above because there is no guarantee that the Marsa top management would enter into a construction agreement even if the company defrayed the cost of the assessment and the upgrade required to meet items 1 and 2 above. 5. Our project will be required to increase the current number of employees from 1,700 to 6,000. In light of the above items the company is considering Marsa Shipyard on a non urgent basis. Other avenues open to the company are to negotiate with the Malta Government and the Labor Union labor union: see union, labor. to lease the Marsa Shipyard.
