CalCPA members lauded.Three prominent CalCPA members were recently awarded for their contributions and accomplishments related to the profession and their communities. Dennis Young Dennis Young was acting Governor-General of Papua New Guinea in 1991. He was Speaker of the Assembly when Serei Eri resigned his position as Governor-General on October 1, 1991. Young served as acting Governor-General until the selection of Wiwa Korowi on November 18, 1991. , managing director/partner-in-charge at RSM McGladrey RSM McGladrey, Inc. is a tax, accounting and consulting firm in the United States, headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota. It is the US member firm of RSM International, the 6th largest network of professional service firms in the world. , is this year's recipient of CaLCPA's Public Service Award, which is given for significant contributions to the CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. "I've always tried to be active in groups and organizations that strive to make a difference and I have tried to be involved where my efforts would be meaningful," he says. Don Gursey was posthumously awarded CalCPA's Distinguished Service Award for his long and distinguished service to the profession. The UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University) UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX graduate was partner at Gursey, Schneider & Co., LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol , where he worked since 1964. Prior to that, he started as a staff accountant at Pritken Finker & Co in 1960. Gursey served as CalCPA president (2000-01); chair of CalCPA's Litigations Committee and CPA PAC; a trustee for the Education Foundation (2000-02); and chair of CalCPA's Amicus AMICUS Automated Management Information Civil Users System Committee. Gursey was also a member of AICPA's council and Litigations committee. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Stanley Breitbard, a founding member of the AICPA's National CPA Financial Literacy Commission, has received the 2008 William E. Odom Visionary Leadership Award from the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. He is the first CPA to receive the award. The Odom Award recognizes individuals for outstanding service in personal finance education.
