The population was 10,833 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2004 estimates, the city had a population of 11,854.
. The acquisition was closed in accordance with the terms of the Asset Purchase Agreement.

The assets acquired from Zephyr Egg include approximately two million laying hens in modern, in-line facilities, pullet pullet

young, female fowl from heat-weaning at about 4 weeks of age, up to point of lay at about 5 months. In some circles the first laying season is referred to as the pullet year.

Cal-Maine also acquired from Zephyr the Eggland's Best[TM] franchise for southern Florida, certain flocks of contract laying hens, and Zephyr's interest in American Egg Products, Inc. Cal-Maine was the majority owner of American Egg Products prior to this transaction.

Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. is primarily engaged in the production, grading, packing and sale of fresh shell eggs. The Company, which is headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi Jackson is the capital and the most populous city of the U.S. State of Mississippi. It is one of the county seats of Hinds County; Raymond is the other county seat. As of the 2000 census Jackson's population was 184,256. , currently is the largest producer and distributor of fresh shell eggs in the United States and sells the majority of its shell eggs in approximately 29 states across the southwestern, southeastern, mid-western and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States.
