Cal Poly's polymers and coating short course slated for February.

California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, will offer the one-week short course entitled "Polymers and Coating Science" on February 18-22, 2008, in San Luis Obispo.

The course will cover many aspects of coating and polymer technologies including resin chemistry, pigments and fillers, nanoparticles, additives, coating application aspects, and rheology with emphasis on liquid coatings. Other coatings technologies (such as powder and UV coatings) will be discussed in order to compare and contrast with traditional liquid coatings. The short course will feature a mix of academic and industrial experts to provide an equal emphasis on both the fundamental and application aspects of a topic. In addition, representatives from both industry and government regulatory agencies will lead a discussion of VOC and air quality aspects of coatings. Participants are expected to have had some exposure to the coatings field along with working knowledge in chemistry and other sciences.
