Cal ISO Names New Vice-President, Client Services.

FOLSOM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 1999--

California ISO announced today the appointment of Zora Lazic as its new Vice-President, Client Services, effective August 16, 1999.

Lazic comes to the Cal ISO from the British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority where she most recently served as Associate General Counsel at Powerex, its power-marketing subsidiary. Lazic also held an advisory member position to the Cal ISO Board of Governors, through which she gained an extensive working knowledge of the organization. "While we are sorry to lose Zora as a member of our Board, we are delighted to be able to have her knowledge available to us on a full time basis," said Terry Winter, President and CEO of the California ISO. "Her energy and skills will be key as we focus on re-shaping the Client Services division of the ISO."

Her education includes a B.A. cum laude in Political Science, as well as a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) and a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from McGill University, Montreal. She became a member of the Bar of British Columbia in 1985 and later obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of Cambridge, England. She regularly interacted with such international agencies as the Northwest Regional Transmission Association, the Western System Coordinating Council, the Western Interconnection Coordinating Forum, the North American Electric Reliability Organization, and the Northwest Power Pool.

Initiatives she worked on with these organizations included open transmission access, reliability management systems, and restructuring of international commercial and reliability organizations. "I am thrilled at the opportunities that will be afforded me in my new role in the organization," said Lazic. "I hope to capitalize on my experience with market, regulatory, and other electric industry issues to shape the Client Services division of the California ISO into an industry model."

Cal-ISO is chartered by the state to manage the flow of electricity along the long-distance, high-voltage power lines that make up the bulk of California's transmission system. The not-for-profit public benefit corporation assumed this responsibility in March 1998 when California opened its energy markets to competition and mandated the investor-owned utilities turn their private transmission power lines over to the Cal ISO's public power grid. The mission of the Cal ISO is to safeguard the reliable delivery of electricity and ensure equal access to the state's "electron highway", which spans 124,000 miles or three-quarters of the state. The Cal ISO is the second largest control area in the U.S. and the fifth largest in the world. Its computerized control center is located in Folsom, 22 miles from the capital city of Sacramento.
