Cal/OSHA Appeals Board Fully Staffed with Appointment of New Public Member.

 has announced that Governor Schwarzenegger has appointed Robert Pacheco, 70, of Walnut, to DIR's Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board in the public member seat. Mr. Pacheco has lived his life devoted to public service. Among his works he served as city council member and planning commissioner for the City of Walnut and held a position with the League of California Cities. Pacheco is the founder of the Gabriel Foundation, an organization providing assistance to needy, abused, physically and mentally challenged children and adults; the Walnut Valley Unified School District The Walnut Valley Unified School District is located in the eastern portion of Los Angeles County and is a part of the Greater Los Angeles Area of the U.S. state of California. It serves the city of Walnut and much of the city of Diamond Bar.  Educational Foundation, providing educational grants to students and adults; and the Walnut Humanitarian and Medical Mission helping disadvantaged individuals in the US and Mexico. As a republican assembly member, 1998-2004, he served as co-chair on the Special Committee on Assembly Legislative Ethics, in addition to vice-chair of the judiciary, health and higher education higher education

Pacheco is currently a senior partner with the Law Offices of Pacheco & Pacheco where he has practiced for 30 years on a variety of issues from criminal defense to product liability. He has served as Judge Pro-tem presiding in the California Superior and Municipal Courts and has extensive civil trial experience. Additionally he is owner and chief financial officer for Western Hardware Company, a manufacturing and import business with sales in excess of $1 million annually that distributes truck, trailer and industrial hardware.

Pacheco, a California resident since 1952, received his B.S. from California State University, Los Angeles California State University, Los Angeles (also known as Cal State L.A., CSULA, or "'CSLA"') is a public university, part of the California State University system.  and his J.D. from Western State University. He lives in the City of Walnut with his wife of 21 years, they have five children. Pacheco will be performing his board duties from West Covina West Covina, city (1990 pop. 96,086), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the San Gabriel valley; settled 1905, inc. 1923. Before World War II, West Covina was a small rural community where walnuts, wheat, and livestock were raised.  and Sacramento Cal/OSHA Appeals Board offices. Compensation for this position is $99,693.

The Cal/OSHA Appeals Board is a three-member quasi-judicial body A quasi-judicial body is an individual or organization which has powers resembling those of a court of law or judge and is able to remedy a situation or impose legal penalties on a person or organization.  appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate. The board handles appeals from private and public sector employers regarding citations issued by the Division of Occupational Safety and Health for alleged violations of workplace safety and health laws and regulations.
