Cairo Film Fest: 60 countries, 300 films. (World).


The 26th Cairo International Film Festival, held last October, received a global boost with new president Cherif El-Shoubashy and dynamic jury chief Ismail Merchant, whose many films as producer-director were highlighted. More than 300 films from 60 countries were screened.

"We hope that the Cairo Film Festival will be the place in the Middle East for films and where distributors can meet," said Shoubashy, who also serves as Egyptian Secretary of International Cultural Relations. "We featured a delegation of 25 film and TV distributors from China and a two-day seminar on film and TV distribution in the region."
