Cairo Film Fest: 25 Years.


Hussein Fahmy Hussein Fahmy, (Arabic: حسين فهمى ) is an Egyptian actor born in 1940 in Cairo. He is the brother of actor Mustafa Fahmy. , president of the Cairo International Film Festival, announced last fall that organizers would "be gearing up for a large 25th Silver Jubilee celebration" in 2001, as the Festival "further develops into a major showcase of cinema as well as a film market for the Middle East."

. The film event also featured tributes to stars of the Egyptian silver screen. Due to a wealth of features still in pre-production, the Festival screened only one Egyptian film and a handful of films from the Middle East region, including six from Iran.

The jury, headed by director Roland Joffe, awarded the top Golden Pyramid prize to the Chinese film The Sigh by Feng Laogang, which also won best actor, actress and script. Second place went to the controversial Egyptian film The Storm by first-time director Khaled Yossef, whose anti-American attitudes were endorsed as he nabbed the best Arabic film prize -- a $25,000 jackpot.
