" for integrating multiple recognition technologies into applications. Software developers, OEM's, systems integrators and value added resellers (VARs), will now be able to take advantage of the open architecture of the Developers Kit 2000, a single source that includes OCR (machine print), ICR (handprint), bar code, OCR-A OCR-A Optical Character Reader - Font A , OCR-B OCR-B Optical Character Reader - Font B , MICR (E13B) and OMR. By offering an open API architecture, 32-bit software developers will gain the flexibility to integrate other individual image capture technologies or products not shipped in the Caere product. An ActiveX or C interface supported by controls will help drive document processing.

Caere, the world's leading supplier of OCR toolkits, expects the announcement to fundamentally enhance its existing industry reputation as a supplier of leading-edge imaging technology. The new kits will provide the development community with a recognition technology supermarket that delivers unparalleled technology performance and flexibility. This single source solution provides application developers with benefits both at the front-end due to easier and faster product development and at the back-end in terms of simplifying licensing issues and the calculation of royalty payments.

Caere also announced special introductory pricing for the new toolkits, which will make them particularly attractive to the document imaging industry and the more than 1500 members of its TEAM OCR network of VARs and systems integrators. The kits will be available at prices ranging from $2,495-$5,495 when they are scheduled to ship in December 1998.

"Caere's delivery of single source toolkits will enable the industry to reduce development cycles and the time it takes to integrate software applications that incorporate multiple recognition technologies," said Chip Maloney, vp of Imaging Products Group, Caere. "Plus, because we understand that the imaging industry frequently requires customized solutions, our API will give them the freedom to integrate other imaging components when their application warrants it."
