Their aim was to raise money for the Help for Heroes' campaign, a national charity set up to provide support and care for wounded servicemen and women returning from present day military conflicts. To stand out and look different, they ran the race in full military kit carrying donation buckets and a Help for Heroes banner. Having already help raise over pounds 1,000 for the charity earlier this year they decided they wanted to help the charity some more so they registered themselves for the race. Having set up a just giving page for people to sponsor them and gained sponsorship from family and friends they also raised money by bucket donations on the day. The total raised so far is over pounds 550.00 Though this was not a cadet activity, the staff and other cadets at 2438 Squadron sponsored their efforts. Cadet Warrant Officer James Parker said: "I am really pleased with the NCOs who did the fundraising. "We managed to raise a staggering pounds 553.56! The reaction from the crowd was fantastic, and as soon as we rolled out our Help for Heroes banner we were constantly receiving donations, pep talks, and pats on the back from the public before we had even started. We were constantly getting stopped around the course for photos and to take donations". CAPTION(S): CADETS Alex Mutton, Brandon Wood, James Parker and Liam Matthews raised pounds 553 for Help for Heroes at the Coventry Mercia Mile. |
