A TYNESIDE air cadet has received a trophy for his flying skills.

Cadet Warrant Officer Andrew Dunn has been awarded the 2009 Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Trophy for Flying Excellence.

Andrew, who is a member of 1114 (Gosforth) Squadron, Durham and Northumberland Wing ATC, was awarded the Trophy during the recent Royal Air Force in Concert performance at the Cadogan Hall in London, by the Chairman of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, Air Chief Marshal air chief marshal

The trophy is awarded annually to the top air cadet who, in the opinion of the Air Cadet Organisation The Air Cadet Organisation (or ACO) is the collective name for the UK cadet forces sponsored by the Royal Air Force. The ACO is made up of:
  • Headquarters Air Cadets at RAF Cranwell
 has shown both outstanding flying ability and personal qualities.

Andrew completed the 12-hour flying scholarship course earlier this year at Tayside Aviation.

The former Gosforth High School Gosforth High School is an English secondary school in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne and is a specialist Language College. Many of its mainstream students come from 3 large feeder middle schools (Gosforth Central, East and Junior High (West) Middle Schools).  pupil, spends his weekends working as an instructor at 645 Volunteer Gliding School and hopes eventually to join the Royal Air Force and train to be a pilot.

"I was ecstatic when I heard I had won the trophy," said Andrew.
