Cadence to Showcase Scanz Scannor at Transamerica Senior Golf Championship.

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE: CDN), the world's leading provider of electronic design products and services, will offer demonstrations of a Scanz Scannor(TM) prototype at the Transamerica Senior Golf Championship, presented by Cadence, Oct. 4-10, 1999 at the Silverado Country Club in Napa, Calif.

The initial concept for the Scannor, a handheld, wireless device that instantly retrieves and replays digital video, was developed by Scanz Communications LLC of Los Angeles, Calif. Cadence devised the system architecture and implemented the product design, bringing the concept to realization. Throughout the golf tournament, the Scanz Scannor will be on display at the Cadence booth in Exhibition Village.

The Scanz Scannor was designed by Tony Verna, who invented instant replay in 1963. While it was conceived with football's instant replay in mind, the device can be used in a wide range of officiating and spectating applications. In the space of about 15 seconds, referees and fans using the device will be able to retrieve the video of a particular play. In addition to use in sports, the Scannor is expected to be rapidly adopted as a tool for the security industry. Future applications encompass a variety of industries, such as consumer and medical care.

Engineers in the Cadence design services organization built the entire system, including the system architecture and design, electronic and mechanical design and integration, and support infrastructure.

Cadence is in its first year as presenting sponsor of the Transamerica Senior Golf Championship. Some of the top names on the SENIOR PGA TOUR -- including Arnold Palmer, defending champion Jim Colbert, Johnny Miller, Lee Trevino, and Gary Player -- are scheduled to play in the $1.1 million tournament.
