Cadence Tackles the Question: What's in a Product Name?

San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1999--Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE NYSE

:CDN (Content Delivery Network) A system of distributed content on a large intranet or the public Internet in which copies of content are replicated and cached throughout the network. ) today unveiled a new product branding strategy for the company's expanding electronic design automation (EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board. ) software portfolio.

Under the new nomenclature system, Cadence(R) EDA products are grouped into six distinct families organized according to the functions they perform, enabling customers to intuitively identify and select products based on their specific design challenges.

Cadence developed this simplified product name hierarchy over a two-year period as part of its ongoing branding program. The naming initiative is expected to improve customer familiarity and ease the education process for the company's broad product lines, created through more than a decade of rapid product development and strategic acquisitions.

The family names listed below are combined with functional descriptors for the actual product names. For instance, with Envisia(TM) logic design planner, "Envisia" is the family name, and "logic design planner" describes what the product does.

The Cierto(TM) family of system design products are used at beginning of the electronic design process for high-level design and verification of complex systems within the operational environments.

The Affirma(TM) family of design analysis and verification products are used to affirm design concepts before committing to silicon with tools such as logic, analog and mixed-signal design simulation and analysis.

The Virtuoso(R) family of integrated (IC) layout tools enable the artistry of custom design in the creation of electrical and physical design representations (schematic and layout) for custom ICs.

The Envisia(TM) family of design planning, implementation and assembly products allow designers to envision design possibilities and build software prototypes for advanced silicon devices and systems on a chip.

The Assura(TM) family of IC physical verification Physical verification

A procedure auditors use to ensure that inventory recorded in the book is correct by actually checking out the physical inventory.
and analysis products provides assurance that ICs can be manufactured and will perform as intended through fast, accurate physical and performance verification.

The Intrica(TM) family of PCB PCB: see polychlorinated biphenyl.

Any of a class of highly stable organic compounds prepared by the reaction of chlorine with biphenyl, a two-ring compound.
and IC packaging design and verification software boasts a product line capable of handling even the most intricate high-speed interconnect designs from the IC package through to the PCB.

The transition to new product families for existing products will be implemented in phases with the new names appearing in the software itself as product updates are released throughout 1999 and 2000.
