The Industrial Electronics design group will focus initially on board-level subsystems for embedded measurement and control, with technology expertise in areas such as signal conditioning Imagine feeding the output of a temperature sensor, which is in millivolts, to an Analog-to-digital converter to be processed. Is it possible for the Analog-to-Digital converter to process such a minute voltage amplitude? The answer is probably no. , integration of sensors and actuators (including small motors), embedded control software, and industrial and enterprise networking The networking infrastructure in a large enterprise with multiple computer systems and networks of different types is extraordinarily complex. Due to the myriad of interfaces that are required, much of what goes on has little to do with the real data processing of the payroll and orders. .

Headed by Vice President and General Manager Al Strelzoff, the Industrial Electronics design group will also support the Cadence Electronics Infusion strategic consulting group (announced last March), which helps industrial and consumer companies to conceptualize con·cep·tu·al·ize

In addition, the group will provide engineering services to companies that have identified a specific need -- for example, the company may already have a product, but wants to update it or reduce its cost, or perhaps tie it to an enterprise network.

Resources

According to Strelzoff, the Industrial Electronics design group will draw on the focused expertise of the Cadence design services organization to ensure the success of its industrial-oriented customer engagements.

Noted Strelzoff, "This group gives Cadence the opportunity to extend its already comprehensive design services capability into the very large industrial electronics market, where we believe that many equipment suppliers need additional help creating all or part of their electronics design activities. We have a significant pool of experienced architects and designers that we can tap to conceptualize projects and draw on Cadence's design capabilities -- not only for ASICs (application-specific integrate circuits) but in rapidly growing fields such as communications, multimedia, and embedded software Instructions that permanently reside in a ROM or flash memory chip. Embedded software may be immediately available to the CPU or, for faster execution, may be transferred to RAM first and then executed. ."

Before joining Cadence, Strelzoff was chief scientist of Schneider Automation, Inc. (formerly known as Modicon in the United States), the world's second largest provider of programmable logic controllers, motor controllers, and factory networks.

For the past three years, he has served as a technical advisor for the University of Michigan's Engineering Research Center for Reconfigurable Machining, which is funded by the National Science Foundation, the state of Michigan, and dozens of large industrial companies. Strelzoff holds a Ph.D. in physics from Columbia University.
