Cadence Design Services Enters Information Appliance Design Market; Cadence Provides Electronic Product Design Expertise for Industry's Fastest Growth Area.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1999--Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN), the world's leading supplier of software and services for electronic design, today announced the expansion of its capabilities with design services dedicated to information appliance design.

To support this effort, Cadence(R) has joined the Microsoft Windows CE System Integrator Program and has teamed with Mainbrace Corporation, a recognized innovator of Windows CE platforms and technologies.

By the year 2002, Business Week estimates that more information appliances will be sold to consumers than PCs. This new market includes typically small, mobile, and ergonomic devices that provide information, entertainment, and communications capabilities to consumer electronics, industrial automation, retail automation, and medical markets. These devices require complex electronic design and system integration, delivered in the short timeframes of consumer electronics.

Cadence has established a dedicated team to specialize in all phases of electronic appliance design -- from system architecture to chips and board design to mechanical design. In addition, this team leverages Cadence worldwide network of design expertise in wireless and wired connectivity, multimedia, digital IC and analog/mixed-signal IC design.

Cadence has also joined Microsoft Windows CE System Integrator program, enabling the two companies to collaborate on technical and marketing activities for this rapidly growing market.
