for the Library Factory(TM) Flow

Cadabra Design Automation Inc., the leading provider of automated layout creation tools, today announced the latest release of its CLASSIC-SC(TM) product which delivers higher quality layouts while making it easier for new users to deploy the software for their library development projects.

Continuing its push to automate the entire layout creation aspect of the standard cell library development process, this new software allows users to create handcrafted hand·craft

quality layouts in a very short time. This capability combined with sophisticated library data management utilities provides users an efficient, fast and high quality tool for library development.

"Usability improvements combined with CLASSIC-SC's unique and powerful layout creation capabilities have raised Cadabra's automated transistor layout (ATL (Active Template Library) A set of software routines from Microsoft that provide the basic framework for creating ActiveX and COM objects. , Product Marketing Manager for Cadabra. "This is the reason we are seeing growing acceptance of our technology across a broader customer base in both creation of standard cell libraries and migration of existing libraries to newer process technologies."

With this release Cadabra has taken a major step towards its objective of implementing the Library Factory(TM) flow which chip designers can use to rapidly create high quality application specific macro cells See hard macro.  and libraries. The Library Factory(TM) flow is critical in closing the performance gap between custom and semi-custom design methodologies. Cadabra is committed to providing automation that allows customers to quickly develop rich libraries targeted at specific design requirements.

Higher Quality of Results

This release includes new transistor placement techniques that have been implemented to allow for automatic transistor stacking, reduction in diffusion diffusion, in chemistry, the spontaneous migration of substances from regions where their concentration is high to regions where their concentration is low. Diffusion is important in many life processes.  gaps and an improved handling of highly folded transistors. The ability to stack transistors minimizes the amount of wasted area that can occur in taller cells. The ability to handle highly folded transistors provides better quality of results in lower cell height architectures where folding is frequent.

Ease of Use

This release introduces a new graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
for users to enter and modify design rules, cell architectural features and layout preferences. This is important during the exploration and creation of cell layouts where users can quickly evaluate the impact of these modifications on the quality of layouts.

Library Data Management

This release also supports multi-user library access and new library management capabilities including a Library Browser that allows users to monitor layout creation jobs, view current run status of cells in the creation process and view vital statistics about a library as well as individual cells.

About CLASSIC-SC

CLASSIC-SC is the leading ATL tool and is used to create and migrate standard cell library layouts. CLASSIC-SC automates the transistor-level design of integrated circuits Integrated circuits

Miniature electronic circuits produced within and upon a single semiconductor crystal, usually silicon. Integrated circuits range in complexity from simple logic circuits and amplifiers, about 1/20 in. (1.
and enables customers to produce handcrafted quality layouts in a fraction of the time of traditional methods.

About Cadabra

Cadabra is the leading supplier of tools for the creation of layouts of cells used in the standard cell, semi-custom, and custom IC design process. Cadabra's tools help users achieve high productivity in the generation of very high quality standard cell layouts. Current worldwide customers include top semiconductor vendors, third party library vendors, and leading fabless semiconductor companies A fabless semiconductor company specializes in the design and sale of hardware devices implemented on semiconductor chips. It achieves an advantage by outsourcing the fabrication of the devices to a specialized semiconductor manufacturer called a semiconductor foundry or "fab.  in the graphics and communications markets.
