Comparable store sales (sales for stores open at least one year or more) increased 3% during the four week May 2001 period, as compared to the same period in 2000. Total sales for the four week period ended May 26, 2001 increased $0.6 million or 4% to $14.5 million, as compared to the same period in Fiscal 2000. Brian Woolf, Cache's Chairman commented, "Our May sales results, while positive, continued to show the effects of the slowdown in consumer spending Consumer demand or consumption is also known as personal consumption expenditure. Total sales for the twenty-one week period ended May 26, 2001 were $76.6 million, as compared to $71.7 million for the comparable period ended May 27, 2000, which represents an increase of $4.9 million or 7%. Comparable store sales increased 4% during the twenty-one week period, as compared to the same period in Fiscal 2000.
