To quote the review of the hardcover in KLIATT, March 2004: Starting a new Princess Diaries book is like opening a box of chocolates. It's springtime in Manhattan, and high school freshman Mia--who is also the heir to the throne throne, chair of state or the seat of a high dignitary. The throne was at first a stool or bench and later became an ornate armchair, usually raised on a dais and surmounted by a canopy.  of the principality of Genovia--is turning 15. There's a lot on her mind, as usual, in this latest entry in the droll droll

The fun is in the telling; as my 16-year-old daughter, a fan of the series, commented, the plot isn't really the point. Giddy fun for a female audience; will appeal to younger or less mature teens not quite ready for the more adult Gossip Gossip
