Cablevision Taps Oracle to Build New Systems with Integrated Database, Tools, Applications; Oracle to Provide Data Warehouse, Executive Information System, Financial Applications, Support and Services in Multimillion-Dollar Agreement.

WOODBURY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 25, 1996--Cablevision Systems Corp. (ASE: CVC), one of the nation's largest, multifaceted telecommunications providers, and Oracle Corp. today announced the signing of a multimillion-dollar, four-year agreement to redesign and integrate Cablevision's business and information systems.

Chosen from among a number of leading software companies, Oracle will supply software licenses, services and support for its database and application development tools, as well as client/server applications. The Cablevision/Oracle relationship will strengthen Cablevision's ongoing cable operations and will help integrate the Digital Services Division, which is overseeing the company's expansion into new businesses, including cable modems, telephony and digital interactive services. This integration will allow Cablevision to compete in the strongest way possible in a new era of telecommunications convergence.

Within the year, Cablevision plans to implement a data warehouse, based on Oracle(R) Universal Server(R), as a single repository for corporate and customer service information. The system will enable the company to track the most frequent customer concerns and address them proactively. The company will also expand its corporate intranet and presence on the World Wide Web using an Oracle-based data warehouse and Developer/2000 enterprise development tool. Also this year, the company will deploy an executive information system to provide management with near- and real-time operational and financial information.

During the first quarter of 1997, Cablevision is expected to implement a new, integrated system comprised of Oracle Applications' full suite of client/server software, including Oracle Financials, Oracle Financial Analyzer, Oracle Purchasing and Oracle Order Entry modules. Also under the agreement, Cablevision purchased Oracle's AS/400 Gateway, Discoverer/2000, Oracle Express Server, Oracle Express Objects, Oracle Express Analyzer and Oracle Sales Analyzer.

Cablevision has enlisted Oracle Services, Oracle's professional consulting services division, to install the system using Oracle's AIM (Application Implementation Methodology) Advantage. When complete, the system will support 8,000 users throughout Cablevision and its subsidiaries.
