Net income in the first quarter ended May 31, 1996 totaled $62.7 million, a 30 percent increase, as compared to net income of $48.3 million in the comparable quarter of the preceding fiscal year. Earnings per share were 87 cents representing a 28 percent increase over earnings per share of 68 cents in the comparable quarter of the preceding year.
