Cabletron Systems' OASys Group defines business strategy.ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 1997-- Cabletron Subsidiary Targets Two Directions for Growth Cabletron Systems (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :CS) announced today that The OASys Group, a wholly-owned Cabletron subsidiary, has defined a market strategy that reaffirms Cabletron's commitment to the importance of the Telecommunications Management Network The Telecommunications Management Network is a protocol model defined by ITU-T for managing open systems in a communications network. It is part of the ITU-T Recommendation series M.3000 and is based on the OSI management specifications in ITU-T Recommendation series X.700. (TMN (Telecommunications Management Network) A set of international standards for network management from the ITU. It is used by large carriers such as Sprint, Verizon and AT&T. ) marketplace. Within this marketplace OASys will key on two complementary business opportunities. A prime opportunity in the near-term and future is the sale of OASys products and services as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and supplier of software. These products provide a migration path for telephone service providers from their current proprietary network management systems to open standards Specifications for hardware and software that are developed by a standards organization or a consortium involved in supporting a standard. Available to the public for developing compliant products, open standards imply "open systems;" that an existing component in a system can be replaced (TMN-based) solutions. They include such products as the TL1/CMIP Gateway and related developer tools, TARP, TARP/500 and the Intelligent Alarm Filter Engine. An additional market opportunity, that will begin to phase-in during the 1998 timeframe, is Cabletron's use of OASys technology to extend SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager, the industry's most robust and intelligent multivendor network and systems management platform, into the TMN market.
