It is part of the ITU-T Recommendation series M.3000 and is based on the OSI management specifications in ITU-T Recommendation series X.700.  (TMN (Telecommunications Management Network) A set of international standards for network management from the ITU. It is used by large carriers such as Sprint, Verizon and AT&T. ) application with Cabletron's SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager platform. The two companies are demonstrating this integrated TMN technology, the SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor, at SuperComm in New Orleans New Orleans (ôr`lēənz –lənz, ôrlēnz`), city (2006 pop. 187,525), coextensive with Orleans parish, SE La., between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, 107 mi (172 km) by water from the river mouth; founded , LA.

The SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor application comes just four months after Cabletron completed its acquisition of The OASys Group in February 1997. Among its telecommunications product offerings, The OASys Group's flagship product A primary product of a company, which is typically why the company was founded and/or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite have been flagship products of Microsoft. CorelDRAW is a flagship product of Corel Corporation.  is the TL1/CMIP Gateway, which enables powerful management of SONET devices, including those from Alcatel, Nortel, NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd.
and others. Central to the TL1/CMIP Gateway is the Q-Adaptor technology, which when integrated with SPECTRUM, became the SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor. The SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor allows SPECTRUM to perform powerful fault management for TL1 and other legacy telecommunications devices.

Enterprise businesses, ISPs and carriers can all benefit from this integrated TMN technology which provides the industry's most intelligent, most complete, end-to-end management of LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. , WAN and global networks. Cabletron has already shipped strong WAN management solutions. For instance, SPECTRUM's Frame Relay Manager application gives users precise monitoring of frame relay circuit bandwidth usage and costs with the use of its detailed circuit-level reports on bandwidth utilization, line congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.

 and performance monitoring.

ISPs seeking to consolidate fragmented systems solutions will be able to integrate the management of their SONET devices in with their broader network and computer assets for seamless management of ATM, ISDN ISDN

, Frame Relay and other services.

The new application allows SPECTRUM to handle alarms and events. Individual applications will also be able to manage both SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  and TL1 devices without relying on network administrators to differentiate between the two protocols. Because its artificial intelligence and alarm filtering allow for enhanced flexibility and scalability, SPECTRUM appeals to the carriers as well as telecommunications customers.

The SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor currently works with several advanced SPECTRUM applications such as the SPECTRUM Report Generator Same as report writer. , which formats, generates and displays/prints both tabular and graphical reports based on SPECTRUM data. It also works with the SPECTRUM Enterprise Alarm Manager to integrate views of alarms across multiple landscapes, allowing network operators to manage on a single screen all network and systems alarms in a global network.

Additionally, the SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor is compatible with the SPECTRUM AR System Gateway to provide users with the tools to detect, track and resolve network and systems problems. Using SPECTRUM's SpectroPHONE, the SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor can provide remote access to SPECTRUM's intelligent alarm system from any touch-tone telephone. SpectroRx allows the SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor to learn from past experience and customize solutions for new problems. Other third-party applications, developed in conjunction with the SPECTRUM Partners Program and integrated at SPECTRUM's Knowledge Base or Alarms and Events level, will also be compatible with the SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor.

"Our work with The OASys Group in developing the SPECTRUM TMN Q-Adaptor technology will accelerate SPECTRUM's acceptance into the telecommunications marketplace," said George C. Hopwood, Cabletron's global director of network and systems management marketing. "It also illustrates the powerful potential of combining Cabletron's and OASys's technologies."

"The speed with which The OASys Group was assimilated in with Cabletron is proof that the two companies' product lines are a good fit," said Greg Cline, program director of network integration and management for Business Research Group. "OASys's expertise in TMN software, combined with Cabletron's enterprise management platform, creates an open standards-based solution that will resolve the most challenging problems facing the telecommunications industry today."

In addition to integrating its TMN solution with SPECTRUM, OASys operates as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  supplier of software, providing a migration path for telephone service providers from their current proprietary network management systems to open standards (TMN-based) solutions.
