CableData Inc. announces formation of Integration Strategies Group; Jerry Johnson appointed to lead transaction management system provider's customer-specific software developments.

A suburb of Sacramento, it experienced rapid growth in the late 20th cent. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 1995--Mike McGrail, president and general manager of CableData Inc., a leading provider of transaction management and billing support systems for the cable, telecommunications, and convergence industries, Monday announced the formation of CableData's Integration Strategies Group.

, vice president of Integration Strategies, the new group will plan, direct and manage the development of customer-specific software solutions for its customers.

Through the Integration Strategies Group, customers can request and fund specific enhancements to CableData's transaction management products. Integration Strategies will evaluate each request and determine the best method of response, which may include in-house development, working with software development partners, contracting with hardware suppliers, or any combination of these alternatives.

"The integrated systems approach will enable us to provide more complete solutions for our customers," said McGrail. "Utilizing our Integration Strategies Group, customers will receive accelerated release of specific software solutions, thus providing them with a strategic advantage in their increasingly competitive marketplace."

Johnson expressed enthusiasm about the new group. "I'm thrilled to accept this new position. The Integration Strategies Group already has projects underway across CableData's customer base including MSOs, U.S. telephone companies, international alliance partners and addressable Reachable. When something is addressable, it can be identified and manipulated independently of its surroundings. For example, screen pixels and RAM memory are addressable. Each of the screen's picture elements can be individually turned on and off, and each of the memory's bytes can be  vendor companies. It has also played a significant role in development supporting the BellSouth Interactive Media Trial.

Johnson was president of his own software development and consulting firm, OpenWorks, from 1991 until accepting the USCS post. He was also founder and president of Objective Systems Integrators, and has held management positions with Planning Research Corp., Mitre Corp. and MCI (1) (Media Control Interface) A high-level programming interface from Microsoft and IBM for controlling multimedia devices. It provides commands and functions to open, play and close the device.
