CableData's Intelecable now available to the U.S. market; premier customer management system's success attributed to its open system design and API's.

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 1996--Mike McGrail, president of CableData Inc., a leading provider of customer care software and open billing solutions to the communications industry worldwide, Thursday announced that the company will formally launch CableData's Intelecable to the U.S. market at the NCTA Show in Los Angeles.

Intelecable is the world's first fully operational transaction management system designed specifically to support converged telephony and cable operations. In making the announcement, the company cited the product's success internationally and in U.S. convergence trials, including the BellSouth interactive system. Additional U.S. installations of Intelecable are underway and will be announced in the coming weeks.

First installed in 1993 at Birmingham Cable Ltd. (BCL), Intelecable is currently deployed at 26 locations worldwide, in countries including the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and Portugal. This year alone, CableData reached agreement to add more than one million subscribers in Holland and Brazil.

"Based upon the success we are experiencing with our development work with BellSouth and other domestic interactive trials, and the 26 installations we have completed to date worldwide, it is clear that Intelecable is ready for the U.S. marketplace. BellSouth is currently utilizing the Intelecable system to support virtually every aspect of its interactive television system in Atlanta, including order processing, collections, charging and billing, field communications, marketing and financial reporting. In addition, the Intelecable system is prepared to support services such as Video On Demand, video games, home shopping and personal computer services.

A multiple-service transaction management system that utilizes a relational database architecture, Intelecable was designed to meet the unique business requirements of companies offering multiple telecommunications services in the complex global marketplace. With a broad spectrum of features, Intelecable supports addressable interfaces, and Audio Response Unit (ARU) and two-way impulse event-ordering technologies. Intelecable also includes localized banking interfaces for a full range of electronic-funds-transfer (EFTS) methods, direct debit and GIRO. In addition, Intelecable allows customer billing statements to be printed on site or at a fulfillment facility.
