Cable & Wireless to Participate in NAP - Network Access Point - of the Americas; Internet Hub Moves Quickly Ahead.

Global telecommunications company Cable and Wireless has signed an agreement to participate in the NAP (Network Access Point) of the Americas, a major Internet hub being built in downtown Miami.

A network access point is a high-speed Internet data exchange and connection point that ties Internet access providers together and enables interaction between geographic regions and among customers of various providers. The NAP of the Americas will route Internet traffic from the Americas, the Caribbean and Europe. The NAP will bring significant value to the state's economy, generating high-paying jobs and attracting many new companies and new technology infrastructure to Florida.

The NAP of the Americas facility will be built by T-Rex, a wholly owned subsidiary of Terremark Worldwide. Finzi said the TECOTA facility, a planned 700,000-sq. ft. telecommunications center, would be operational by June 2001. SAIC/Telcordia was chosen as the Operator for NAP of the Americas. SAIC/Telcordia will design the technical specifications for the NAP and collaborate with the developer of the NAP building to ensuring proper and successful implementation.
