Cable & Wireless to Deploy Gigalabs Switching Solutions; GigaStar Super-Fast Switching Platform to Support CWIX's Internet Exchange Platform.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1996--GigaLabs, Inc., today announced that Cable & Wireless Internet Exchange See IXP and NAP.  (CWIX CWIX Cable & Wireless Internet Exchange ), a Vienna, Va.-based Cable & Wireless business unit that is establishing the first globally deployed Internet exchange platform, will deploy GigaLab's super high-speed switches on its network.

"GigaStar(TM) provides CWIX with a totally scaleable solution allowing us to grow our capabilities as overall Internet traffic Internet traffic is the flow of data around the Internet. It includes web traffic, which is the amount of that data that is related to the World Wide Web, along with the traffic from other major uses of the Internet, such as electronic mail and peer-to-peer networks.  grows without incurring major, upfront capital costs," said George Vinall, general manager at CWIX. "For us, GigaStar offers the price-performance we demand to provide our customers with high-bandwidth Internet applications and capacity."

The GigaStar family of products includes a platform of super-fast switches which typically are ten times faster than high-end switches generally available today. The GigaStar platform also protects users' investments by providing a modular upgrade path to as much as 53 Gbps on the switching backplane An interconnecting device that has sockets for printed circuit boards to plug into.
