with Detection and Automation Features

Micromuse, Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of service-level management software, today announced that Netcool(TM)/FireWall-1, a recent addition to the Netcool product suite, has been chosen by Cable & Wireless Omnes to support the security management portion of its diversified service offerings. Cable & Wireless Omnes, a global IT and network solutions provider, will use Micromuse's Netcool suite of applications as the foundation for its entire management infrastructure.

"Scalability was an important issue for us," said Jim Sullivan For other persons named Jim Sullivan, see Jim Sullivan (disambiguation).
Jim Sullivan was a Welsh rugby league player. The Wigan full-back, a prodigious goalkicker, scored 6,022 points in a career that spanned 25 years.
, Business Manager of Network and Intranet Solutions at Omnes. "We are monitoring over 35 firewalls using three FireWall-1 consoles. Previously, sifting through log entries to identify suspicious behavior was an extremely time consuming process. Netcool/FireWall-1 lets one operator monitor all our firewalls effectively in real time, automatically detecting events such as over-usage of TCP (1) (Transmission Control Protocol) The reliable transport protocol within the TCP/IP protocol suite. TCP ensures that all data arrive accurately and 100% intact at the other end.  and port scans."

The Netcool/FireWall-1 monitoring application collects security information from Check Point Software's FireWall-1(R) enterprise security solution and integrates it with information collected by Netcool, providing operators in security operations centers with an end-to-end view of events that might indicate security breaches or cause service outages. Netcool/FireWall-1 streamlines operations by correlating security events across firewalls and by adding the element of security to the organization's enterprise-wide service-level management solution.

The Netcool suite is based on an in-memory database A database that keeps all active records in main memory rather than on disk. Accessing in-memory records is considerably faster than retrieving them from the disk.  optimized to collect events from more than 75 environments off the shelf and allow operators to build views of services in realtime. Because it is scalable and deploys rapidly, the Netcool business model allows service providers to expand their networks as their markets grow.
