Cabinet maker adds more land near factory.

Byline: Development Report By Joe Harwood The Register-Guard

Should Brent Brent, outer borough (1991 pop. 226,100) of Greater London, SE England. The area is a rail and industrial center. Its manufactures include automobile parts, clocks and watches, and electrical equipment.  Lanz need to expand his cabinet-making business yet again, he now owns plenty of land near his west Eugene factory to do so.

Lanz, president of Lanz Cabinets, and his wife, Lori, in September bought 4 acres at 3030 W. Seventh Place for $835,000. The property is immediately south - and just across the street - from the Lanz Cabinets factory, at 3025 W. Seventh.

The acreage, formerly owned by Consolidated Freightways Consolidated Freight was the 3rd biggest trucking company in the US. In the 1930s they started their own truck manufacturing operation, Freightliner, now part of DaimlerChrysler. , includes a 26-door docking facility Noun 1. docking facility - landing in a harbor next to a pier where ships are loaded and unloaded or repaired; may have gates to let water in or out; "the ship arrived at the dock more than a day late"

Consolidated put the distribution center up for auction following its 2002 bankruptcy bankruptcy, in law, settlement of the liabilities of a person or organization wholly or partially unable to meet financial obligations. The purposes are to distribute, through a court-appointed receiver, the bankrupt's assets equitably among creditors and, in most , and Lanz won the bidding.

Lanz last November finished a $2.25 million, 28,000-square-foot expansion on 2.4 acres next to the company's main 40,000-square-foot factory. In 2000, Lanz had bought a 4.3-acre parcel immediately east of the main factory.

Like the 2000 purchase, Lanz said, he made his most recent acquisition for long-term expansion purposes. "It's something that I probably wouldn't have chased down if it were somewhere else," he said.

For the short term, he will lease the terminal to two long-haul trucking companies, Conway Western Express and Watkins Motorlines Inc.

Lanz, with 250 workers, makes kitchen and bathroom cabinets for apartments and single-family homes from Canada to California.

Dr. Peter Snyder plans to move his practice to a former Umpqua Bank branch at West 18th Avenue and Bailey Hill Road.

Snyder, with his wife and office manager, Rachel Snyder, bought the one-third acre parcel in August for $355,000. Umpqua closed the branch following its 2002 acquisition of Centennial Bank, and consolidated that operation with another branch.

The location works well for the Snyders - who are now renting space in south Eugene - because it's about five minutes from their home. "And we wanted to own instead of rent," Rachel Snyder said.

They plan to add about 1,100 square feet of space to the building, removing the drive-through window in the rear. When complete, the renovated dental facility will have about 2,200 square feet, Snyder said. They plan to start the work in about a month and move in next summer.
