Cabbies to have cultural credentials tested ready for lead-up to 2008.


LIVERPOOL'S cabbies are set to have their local knowledge tested in a competition to get them ready for Capital of Culture 2008.

Liverpool City Council is the governing body for the city of Liverpool in Merseyside, England. It consists of 90 councillors, three for each of the city's 30 wards.
 are looking for taxi drivers who are enthusiastic about Liverpool's rich heritage and thriving arts scene.

Their credentials will be tested first by a quiz on theatres, galleries and museums, and then by an interview with a panel from the Liverpool Culture Company.

The ten drivers who demonstrate the best cultural awareness will be rewarded with Capital of Culture branding for their cabs.

, the city council's executive member for leisure, said: ``On the way to 2008, Liverpool needs to become a global destination for culture vultures.
